Felix De Weldon was the sculptor of the original Iwo Jima Memorial in Arlington, Va.  In the 1980's, he was commissioned by Elwood "Bob" Pipping to create a symbol of the Iwo Jima Memorial as a tribute to honor all veterans, living and deceased.  This sculpture was completed and signed by Felix De Weldon in 1988 .
